Lyca Mobile South Africa closure – FAQ

It has been six years since Lyca Mobile launched in South Africa. During this time, it has been our privilege to help South Africans connect with friends and family, wherever they are, through our network.

Sadly, it is no longer possible for Lyca Mobile to continue providing a service.

Lyca Mobile services in South Africa will shut down on 9 January 2024.

You will need to move to another mobile network operator before this date to continue using your mobile number.

We understand this closure is disappointing news. Below you will find important information about transfers and refunds.

Important things to know about Lyca Mobile’s closure in South Africa

Lyca Mobile services in South Africa will shut down on 9 January 2024.

Your mobile number will cease to work with Lyca Mobile after the shutdown. This includes calls, texts and mobile data.
You will need to move to another mobile network operator before 9 January 2024 to continue using your mobile number.

To transfer your existing number to another network, we recommend visiting the operator you wish to move to for further information.

Note: after 9 January 2024, email will be the only option for contacting us. .

Your personal data will be stored for 12 months unless you specifically request it to be deleted before the closing of Lyca Mobile South Africa on 9 January 2024. After the 12 months, your stored personal data will be deleted.

Lyca Mobile plans and top-ups have now been removed from sale.
It is no longer possible to top-up your Lyca Mobile online or using retail top-up vouchers, as Lyca Mobile South Africa’s systems are preparing to shut down.
Any plans or top-ups purchased at retail will expire on, or before, the closure date.

Any unused credit in your Lyca Mobile account after 9 January 2024 will be cancelled.
Before the closure of Lyca Mobile South Africa, you can request a refund by contacting our customer service team.
If you wish to move to another operator, you will not be eligible for a refund.
